Classy, but with a pop
I had the distinct pleasure of being asked by Gates McFadden (you may have seen her on your TV in the 90s, traveling among the stars) to completely overhaul and rebuild her website. I had worked with Gates in the past on small digital graphics but this was a new and exciting challenge. She wanted something elegant but functional to help promote her upcoming projects, keep track of convention appearances, and showcase her body of work. She also hopes to include a store in the future to auction off career memorabilia.
I built the website with Wordpress’s Elementor tool; the finished product can be viewed here. The color scheme is reminiscent of old theater posters, per Gates’s request. In her words: “Classy, but with a pop.”
For inspiration, I drew on the official websites of other celebrity and theater organizations, ultimately developing and creating a bespoke space to showcase Gates’ career, plans, and personality. The home page features a rollover transition from Gates’ early career to the present; this is a companion to the upcoming launch campaign “New site, same Gates.” Other features include a sticky menu, responsive mobile design, crisp name lockup, and carousel of images from Gate’s own collection.
