Cipe Pineles, an essay collection
As a graduating senior I was tasked with creating an essay collection that used typography to showcase the work of a designer of my choosing. Cipe Pineles (pronounced SEE-pee pi-NELL-iss), one of the most prominent designers of the twentieth century and one of the first female art directors to work at a major magazine She was pivotal in the recognition of teen girls and working women as a legitimate demographic in the fashion industry, and helped pilot the success of both Seventeen and Charm magazines. She was forever practical and always open-minded with a respect and clarity that resonates through all her designs. My final piece included a die cut name on the cover, folding pages, and patterns I created from Cipe’s various fashion and logo illustrations. I remain immensely proud of this bold and snazzy little book.
